This week, something different unfolded in the CWL community a lighthearted, community driven ARAM event known as the Dual Duel. Hosted inside the CWL Discord, this unique event brought together 16 players from various CWL divisions in a 2v2 ARAM showdown held on the Howling Abyss.
Unlike the high stakes competitions that define CWL’s Rise, Defy, or Ascend divisions, this duel emphasized community bonding and off meta fun. Players competed in a simple format: blind pick, no bans, and one champion two players. The rules were relaxed, with the only condition being to secure a kill or destroy the first tower to advance.
The idea originated from staff and veteran members aiming to refresh the community atmosphere between split stages. With meme picks, unexpected comebacks, and hilarious chat moments, the tournament quickly captured attention across the server. Even some well known CWL players joined, treating the event as a chance to unwind and joke around without the pressure of elo or match points.
The final round came down to a flashy duel between two Division 2 players, ending in an all in showdown that had dozens of community members spectating live through Discord stream channels. No prize was awarded, but the bragging rights were enough to stir months of banter.
With positive feedback from the players and viewers alike, the Dual Duel might return as a monthly tradition or between major CWL stages. It served as a reminder that while CWL aims to mimic a professional esports environment, it is also a vibrant, close knit community where fun, laughter, and personality are just as welcome as strategy and skill.
