CWL is an independant tournament organisation based on an official CWL Discord server, which has been organising competitive League of Legends tournaments for its community since 19.09.2019.
CWL’s mission is to provide League of Legends players with access to a full professional esports experience by simulating the official competitive environment. As both a tournament organizer and a media content creator, CWL strives to make high-level competition accessible to a broad range of players.
Our primary goal is to offer regular players the opportunity to experience a professional setting, bridging the gap between amateur and (semi-)professional play. We also aim to inspire and support aspiring players by showcasing their narratives and achievements, enhancing visibility within the esports ecosystem.
By maintaining high quality standards, setting forward-thinking goals, and delivering unique value, CWL positions itself as "Not Just an Amateur League." Our broader vision is to become a scouting ground for professional leagues, helping players, casters, and staff alike take their first steps toward future careers in esports. The specific method of registration will be announced through CWL's social media channels. To register, a team must send the entry fee to CWL’s PayPal account within 48 hours of their team's acceptance. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of their registration, and their reserved slot will be offered to the next team on the waiting list.
The transaction message should include the team or a player's name.
Teams will be expected to cover any PayPal processing fees. The transaction can be listed as ‘friends and family’ to avoid any processing fees.
If CWL reaches the maximum number of accepted registrations, additional teams will be placed on a waiting list. These teams will be notified, and remain on the waiting list until the registration period ends. If a reserved team fails to complete their registration, a team from the waiting list will be used as replacement.
At the end of the registration date, teams in the waiting list will be rejected automatically due all slots being filled.
Any team who refers a different, new team, to CWL will receive €5 euros off their entry fee, per team referred.
*Players who have played at least one official CWL game are considered veterans.
During registration, teams must submit a core roster of at least 5 players, and may include up to 3 additional permanent substitutes, for a maximum total of 8 players. All rostered players must provide accurate and complete main account information and ALL of their accounts that are or were ranked in Diamond IV and above. Teams are fully responsible for any undisclosed accounts or information later identified by CWL staff.
Once the tournament has begun, teams may request to add players in their team ticket and receive an approval from a referee. However, teams may only remove or replace players who have not played in any tournament match.
A player becomes locked to a team after playing in 2 matches and may not compete for another team for the remainder of the tournament.
Players may apply to the tournament without meeting the ranked game requirements, however they must be met before the player’s first CWL match.
Main account requirements for new entries:
Main account requirements for veterans (past CWL players):
Additionally, CWL Players are only able to use one account during the whole competition. Players can’t use any other account during the competition unless they lose their access to their account. CWL Referees will review their situation and decide whether to allow the player to use another account or not. Using a different account without approval may result in a forfeit of the match the player played.
If the player is using their alternate/smurf account more than their primary account. CWL requires the primary account to have the full level requirement but only half of the required games, and an alternate account to meet all of the requirements.
Ranks of players on the roster are locked in after the first game of the CWL split.
All players must provide accurate and complete main account information and ALL of their accounts that are or were ranked in Diamond IV and above.
Players are required to immediately report any new accounts or in-game name changes to CWL referees. Failure to do so may result in penalties. Intentionally hiding smurf accounts or other relevant account information from CWL officials may result in disciplinary action, including team disqualification and permanent suspension from CWL competitions.
If a player is meeting the account verification on another server (EUNE/NA etc.) they also need at least half of the amount of levels and games played on an EUW account that they are going to play their CWL matches on.
If the player has a main account in another region that holds their peak rank, that will be the rank CWL will use as an overall.
During registration, each team must submit a CORE roster of five players, with one player assigned to each of the five roles. During a split, each team may change their CORE roster once.
Changing the CORE roster does not remove any players from the team. It only updates which five players are considered the team’s official starting lineup for administrative and rule purposes.
All players who have previously played for a certain team remain part of the team and retain their eligibility unless otherwise restricted by league rules.
Teams may submit up to 6 active players on their match roster report for any given series. Game one must be played according to the roster reports declaration of players and roles, however these players can be freely substituted between games within the series. Any substitutions must be communicated to the opposing team before the next game's draft begins.
All substitutes must meet eligibility requirements for the division and be approved by CWL referees. Any relevant smurf or alternate accounts must be disclosed in accordance with the CWL account policy.
In exceptional cases where a team cannot field a full 5 players from their registered 8-player roster, they may request to use an emergency substitute, a player not listed on their official team roster. This will only be permitted with explicit approval from CWL referees and is intended strictly for unexpected, unavoidable situations.
Penalty for using an emergency substitute:
Penalties apply to all games in a series in which the emergency substitute participates. Teams may request additional emergency substitutes by providing sufficient justification for CWL staff to review. In special circumstances, CWL referees may approve more than one emergency substitute per series and more than three total emergency substitutes for the duration of the league.
Teams need to appoint one member as their spokesperson, this should be their most responsive member. This person will be responsible for communicating with CWL staff and with other teams for scheduling.
*Players are responsible for their own behaviour.
League of Legends pro players who are in time of CWL tournament playing in any of the Regional Leagues or official local leagues are not allowed to participate without prior agreements with Riot Games.
Regional Leagues are regarded as the Division 1 equivalent of the ERLs.
The coach can stay with the team on voice during champion selection to help with the pick and ban phase but must leave the voice channel immediately after the pick and ban phase ends. They are not allowed to stay with the players during the game.
CWL is based on the players residing in the following countries (but not limited to): United Kingdom (UK), Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, South Africa, Åland Islands, Bouvet Island, Faroe Islands, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, British Indian Ocean Territory, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Malta, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, British Virgin Islands).
All divisions will each consist of 16 teams, which will compete in a swiss format.
In the first round of the swiss format, matchups will be drawn randomly for every team and each team will play one Best-of-3 (BO3) series against another team.
In the second round, new matchups will be drawn between the teams sharing the same score line. This continues each round with teams playing other teams that have identical win/loss records, until they reach an overall score record of 3 match wins or 3 match losses. Upon reaching 3 match losses teams will be eliminated from the competition.
Teams with 3 match wins will secure their spot in the double elimination format. When all teams reach 3 match wins or losses, the swiss format will be concluded. Matchups will be drawn at the end of every week, once all of that week’s matches have concluded. Teams will not play a team they have already faced. If a team is drawn against a previous opponent, they will be moved into the next available matchup slot.
In the first round of the double elimination format, the remaining eight teams will be seeded into the bracket according to their results from the swiss format. After the first round, winning teams will advance to the upper bracket, while losing teams will continue their run in the lower bracket. In each following round, teams that lose in the upper bracket will drop to the lower bracket, while teams that lose a match in the lower bracket will be eliminated from the competition. Teams will continue to battle through their series (BO5 Ascend and BO3 Forge, Rise & Defy) until only one team remains, and that team will be crowned the CWL Champion.
If an insufficient number of teams register, the format will be adjusted accordingly.
The CWL is split into three competitive divisions, each with specific rank limitations to promote fair and balanced competition:
Each player’s all-time peak solo/duo LP determines the lowest division they are allowed to compete in.
When calculating a team’s LP for division placement, only peak LP from the Season 2026 and the previous season (2025, all 3 splits) will be used.
Rank restrictions are based on current solo/duo LP at the time of registration (rounded to the nearest 50).
Player and team ranks are locked after their first official match, and they are not required to stay within the cap for the remainder of the tournament.
CWL considers the solo/duo ranked results when taking a player's peak rank. Ranked flex does not count.
*CWL reserves the right to grant exceptions at its discretion.
The entry fees per team are:
CWL Ascend | €40 euros.
CWL Defy | €30 euros.
CWL Rise | €25 euros.
CWL Forge | FREE TO PLAY.
Majority of the entry fees will be contributed into the prize pool, anything remaining will be contributed to the CWL maintenance, development and providing streams for as many games as possible.
The prize pools per tournament are:
CWL Prizes | Ascend | Defy | Rise | Forge |
1ST PLACE | €350 | €250 | €200 | Free Entry to Next CWL Rise |
2ND PLACE | €100 | €90 | €80 | Free Entry to Next CWL Rise |
*Prize pools are calculated by using the maximum number of participants for each division. It could be adjusted according to the number of participants.
At the start of each week a scheduling thread will be created for each match in the CWL Discord where teams are expected to communicate with their opponent team’s spokesperson to organize their matches.
Matches must be concluded within 7 days of scheduling, and with more than 24 hours before the next round's default date.
If for any reason both teams cannot come to an agreement over scheduling then the teams must play their match on the default time.
An exception to the default scheduling rule applies under the following conditions:
When this condition is met, Team B must select one of the days provided by Team A, and the match will be played on the selected day at the default match time, unless both teams mutually agree to a different time.
To prevent abuse of this exception:
Default match time for BO3 series is:
20 PM CEST
Default match time for BO5 series is:
19 PM CEST for the series on Sunday, 20 PM CEST for the series on Friday.
In the swiss format, all divisions play BO3 matches. In the double elimination format, ASCEND matches are BO5, while DEFY, RISE and FORGE are BO3 except for their finals which are BO5.

Matches must be concluded within the time frame specified in the scheduling thread.
If for any reason, one of the teams is not in-game lobby within 15 minutes after the settled match time, their first game will count as a loss. If a team is not ready to play 30 minutes after the settled time, they will forfeit the match.
Errors such as incorrectly saving runes or other minor issues don’t warrant a remake or any sort of change, the game will play on and the same goes for any in-game bug that is not noticeable or relevant to how the game will play out.
However if a bug has occurred in an official CWL match that is substantial enough to be considered game breaking then the game must be paused and a referee must be called to give a ruling.
Roster reports are the team sheets with multi-OP.GG’s posted in the 24h roster report channel in the CWL Discord. Follow the example 24 hour roster report in the #24h-roster-report channel to get the correct format/information that goes on the team sheet.
If a roster report is submitted less than 24 hours before the scheduled match time, penalties for the entire match (all games) will apply based on how late the report is:
Incorrect roster reports or failure to follow the roster report rules could result in penalties including but not limited to:
Only the 5 members playing may be present in Discord voice channel from the moment the draft finishes until the moment the game ends.
Players should use Fearlessdraft.net to do the pick/ban phase, if both teams agree, they can use another drafting website instead (such as drafterlol). Teams can’t use the game client to draft.
All champion swaps within players must be concluded 20 seconds before the end of draft.
Players may swap roles between games, this must be communicated to the opposing team and a referee before the next draft begins.
Fearless Draft is a unique drafting format used to add variety and strategic depth to competitive League of Legends. All official CWL matches will use the Fearless Draft format.
Here's how it works:
In Game 1, teams draft normally.
In all subsequent games, neither team is allowed to pick any champions that were picked by either team in the previous game(s), regardless of which side picked them, or whether they won or lost.
For example:
If Team A picks Ahri and Team B picks Jhin in Game 1, both Ahri and Jhin are off-limits for both teams in Game 2.
By the final game of a series, a significant number of champions may be off the table, making champion pool depth and flexibility extremely important.
Fearless Draft rewards teams that can adapt their strategies and showcase a wider variety of champions, rather than relying on the same picks each game.
Side Selection Rules:
After a game in an ongoing match series finishes, both teams must be ready to start the next draft within 10 minutes of game ending.
Winners of the match have to send post-game screenshots including the web draft to the relevant division results channel. An example is shown below:
Conditions for a remake:
Players must notice and identify the bug/issue in game, remakes cannot take place after the game has been played out.
The game must be paused and a referee must be called, who will review the evidence and decide if the game must be replayed from the start. If the bug is deemed to not be game breaking the game will simply carry on from that point.
Players pausing should have evidence of the bug taking place; If no evidence is present the game will play out and the referee(s) will review afterwards to see if the game counts or not.
In the unlikely event that no referees are available after waiting 15 minutes, the pausing team can end the game. In this case, no result will be given until a referee can review the evidence. If the game is found to not have a game-breaking bug worthy of a remake, the pausing team will be given the loss for that game. If there is a game-breaking bug found, the match will simply be remade.
If there are games to be played after an ended game, then they can be continued while waiting for the first to be reviewed.
Players are expected to remain sportsman-like in and out of matches.
Chatting/bantering is generally allowed as long as it’s mutual. If a team/player is being disrespectful and is refusing to stop when requested to, a referee can be called.
To ensure a positive, healthy competitive environment for everyone, disrespectful teams/players will be given warnings and sanctions for their behaviour/misconduct.
These sanctions include but are not limited to:
In the case of any issues or errors, CWL referees reserve the right to intervene and make an immediate decision. This will be in the interest of maintaining competitive integrity and fairness for all players. This includes any unexpected circumstances or new problems that surface in the competition, even if not yet broached in this rulebook.
CWL has faith in its team of referees but if a player or team disagrees with a referee's ruling, they are entitled to raise the issue via a ticket to the CWL management.
CWL expects every team to compete fairly and play to the best of their ability in all of their matches.
The punishment for any team found cheating includes removal from the competition, potentially being banned from all CWL competitions for an extended period of time.
Listed below are examples of cheating:
Any player found account sharing, either playing on someone else's account or having someone else play on theirs, will receive a permanent ban from all CWL competitions and communities.
Teams are entitled to pause any official game, up to 15 minutes, if they have a valid reason. Here is the list of valid reasons:
If a team leaves the competition before it’s concluded, all of their future games will count as a forfeit. There will not be any retroactive score changes.
People who wish to stream CWL matches, must apply to be a CWL Co-Streamer and follow the CWL Co-Streaming Guidelines in order to be able to stream.
Matches will only be streamed on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. CWL can’t guarantee the ability to stream every match but will do its best to accommodate. Ascend division matches will be prioritized; if no Ascend match is scheduled at the time, streaming will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, except for the finals.
If teams want CWL to stream their match they can request it by using the @Book command on their scheduling thread, at least 1 or 2 days in advance.
Both teams will join the game lobby and wait for CWL staff to join before starting the draft. Draft can be started after staff confirms they're ready. Starting the draft without approval from CWL staff could result in the draft being remade or a cancellation of the stream.
New champions and any champions that are receiving major reworks are banned for the current and the week following during the official CWL matches after the new patch goes live. This is usually followed by an announcement on the Discord server. Drafting and playing any of these champions before they are enabled will result in an automatic forfeit of the match.
In certain cases, teams may be required to register on external tournament platforms, such as Leagues.gg or Pathtoesports, as part of their participation in CWL tournaments. If such a requirement is announced, it is the responsibility of each team to complete the registration process promptly and accurately. Failure to comply may result in disqualification, penalties, or other consequences at the discretion of CWL referees.
Harassment is forbidden. Harassment is defined as systematic, hostile, and repeated acts taking place over a considerable period, or a singular egregious instance, which is/are intended to isolate or ostracise a person and/or affect the dignity of the person.
Sexual harassment is forbidden. Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances. The assessment is based on whether a reasonable person would regard the conduct as undesirable or offensive. There is zero tolerance for any sexual threats/coercion or the promise of advantages in exchange for sexual favours.
Documentation or other reasonable items may be required at various times throughout the CWL split as requested by CWL Referees. If the documentation is not completed to the standards set by the CWL, then a team may be subject to penalties. Penalties may be imposed if the items requested are not received and completed at the required time.
Hate speech is defined as actions or statements that offend the dignity or integrity of a person, group of people, or country/nationality with the use of contemptuous, discriminatory, or denigrating language or expressions on the account of race, skin colour, ethnicity, national/social origin, gender, language, religion, political views or any other sort of opinion, financial status, sexual orientation, or any other reason.
Team members may not disclose any confidential information provided by a referee. This includes but is not limited to, real names, contact information of fellow players, communication systems usernames, pictures, or emails.
Team members should exhibit appropriate behaviour and respect to referees, other team members, opposing team members, casters, journalists, audiences, and any other CWL community participants.
Team members/players are prohibited from using language that is obscene, foul, vulgar, insulting, threatening, abusive, libellous, slanderous, defamatory, or otherwise offensive/objectionable. They may also not promote or incite such hatred/discriminatory conduct in the match.
By applying to this competition, participants hereby agree to follow all the rules set out in this CWL rulebook. Any participant found to be in breach of any of rule(s), will be subjected to the appropriate punishments by the CWL referee team.
CWL referees retain the right to make any changes and/or overrule any rules written in this rulebook if deemed necessary.
